Landon Gilmore is the current Director of Choral Activities at San Angelo Central High School, where he directs the Bobcat Chorale, the Men’s Choir, and “The HarmoniCats” show choir. Currently in his 10th year and Central and his 12th year of teaching high school choral music in Texas, choirs under Mr. Gilmore’s direction have consistently received sweepstakes and superior ratings at festivals and University Interscholastic League events. Mr. Gilmore also currently serves as the Choirmaster at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in San Angelo, where he directs the Parish Choir and Choral Scholars. Prior to moving to San Angelo, Mr. Gilmore taught at College Park High School in The Woodlands, Texas, and has served as a musician and worship leader in Baptist churches in Waco, Madisonville, and Houston.
Mr. Gilmore holds a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Sam Houston State University, where he studied with Dr. Allen Hightower and Dr. Carol Smith. In addition, he served as a teaching assistant for the choral department, conductor for the opera department, and taught courses in beginning conducting. Mr. Gilmore is also a proud graduate of Baylor University, completing a Bachelor of Music Education degree in Instrumental Music in 2007. At Baylor, he studied saxophone and music technology with Dr. Michael Jacobson, choral music with Dr. Jeffery Ames and Dr. Randall Bradley, and choral conducting with Dr. Donald Bailey. As an undergraduate at Baylor, he had the rare distinction of serving as a section leader in the A Cappella Choir, section leader and assistant conductor of the Concert Choir, and section leader, student conductor, and president of the historic Baylor University Men’s Choir. In 2008, he was invited to perform with the Baylor University Chamber Singers and was honored to be given honorary alumni status in that group.
Mr. Gilmore is an active member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association (TMAA), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Choral Directors Association (TCDA), and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. He is currently serving TMEA as the Region 6 Vocal Division Chairman and has previously served as an All-State Choir Section Leader. Mr. Gilmore has had the privilege of conducting in workshops and masterclasses for Dr. John Dickson, Dr. Anton Armstrong, Dr. Joseph Flummerfelt, and Paul Salamunovich.
